SMM reinforces, once again, its attendance in the Netherlands, having signed a new contract of around 5 million Euros, with Verwater, for erection of 12 fixed rood tanks, at ARGOS Terminal, Rotterdam. Tanks will be erected with hydraulic jacks, emphasizing SMM capability in several erection techniques applicable to storage tanks. The work will be developed during nine months, with its completion scheduled for the first quarter of 2013.

Returning to the SMM presence in PETROGAL refinery in Oporto, SMM wins the contract for general revamping of H-1301 furnace, to be performed during unit 1300 shutdown, which will occur in April and May 2012.  

Strengthening its activity in the hydroelectric sector, SMM won the contract for erection of hydromechanical equipment for hydroelectric reinforcement power plant of Venda Nova III. This contract with VOITH opens the SMM collaboration spectrum with the great European turbine suppliers, emphasizing SMM capability in this kind of projects.

SMM reinforces, once again, its attendance in Sines LNG Terminal, having won the contract for the insulation works (perlite), to be executed in the tank that it is erecting.

The project for the erection of the mill for production of Purified Terephtalic Acid, in Sines, went into the final phase, with its completion scheduled for January 2012.

The shutdown works of the first group of Palos de la Frontera Combined Cycle Power Plant,in Spain, were successfully concluded, after the execution of 40.000 hours. The two remaining shutdowns are scheduled for February and September 2012.

Today, SMM, in a consortium with Andritz and Efacec, celebrates with EDP the contract of ‘Equipments Supply for Foz Tua Hydroelectric Power Plant’, with a global amount of 76 million Euros. The contract includes all equipments and installations of the dam, power house and hydraulic circuits, including the supply of two pump-turbines with a total power of 250 MW. The conclusion of this project is scheduled for the end of 2015.

SMM anticipates, in 5 weeks, the third LNG tank mechanical completion, in Sines Terminal. Hydraulic test will start in the next days, as a mark of the end of one of the most demanding tasks of the tank construction, which was performed with excellent results, concerning safety, quality and productivity, reaching another successful milestone in engineering of erection of this type of tanks.

Emphasizing the excellent maintenance work that SMM has been performing in the Combined Cycle Power Plants of Carregado and Tapada do Outeiro, in Portugal, SIEMENS Spain awarded to SMM the maintenance works of the major Outages in the three groups of the Combined Cycle Power Plants of Palos de la Frontera, Spain. The first group shutdown is currently running. The shutdowns of the remaining groups are scheduled for February and September 2012.

SMM concludes a Project with a global amount of 40 milion euros at Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) Gate Terminal, Rotterdam Port, the biggest European LNG Terminal. The new infrastructure, which will be open tomorrow, was awarded in 2008 and foresaw the erection of three cryogenic tanks for Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), with a capacity of 180.000 m3 per unit. On the 1st June, 2011 were successfully concluded the following projects, in the Maasvlakte LNG Terminal, Rotterdam: • Erection of 3 cryogenic tanks with 180.000m3 of capacity for liquefied natural gas storage; • Prefabrication and erection of process piping of 3 cryogenic tanks. In spite of the conclusion of these two relevant projects, SMM attendance, in the Terminal, still continues, performing the commissioning assistance works and installation start-up.

As a result of works in Maasvlakte LNG Terminal, Rotterdam, SMM was the selected company to perform the commissioning assistance works and installation start-up. Once again, with this award, the companies involved in the Terminal execution, namely TECHINT/SENER emphasize the excellent work which has been developing by SMM, in the referred Terminal. The work will be developed for seven months, with its completion scheduled for the end of September 2011.

SMM reinforces its attendance in Sines, having won a new contract of around 5 million Euros for prefabrication and installation of piping and erection of equipments in process area at LNG Terminal, Sines. The work will be developed during 1 year and 9 months, with its completion scheduled for the second quarter of 2012.

On the last October 1st, SMM achieved another important task on tank construction at Sines LNG Terminal with 150.000 m3 of capacity, the roof air raising with a weight of 780 ton. This operation is one of the most relevant milestones during the construction of LNG tanks and we pride ourselves in the success achieved in this one delicate operation.

SMM won another contract with GALP. This is an EPC (Engineering / Procurement / Construction) contract, which includes the specialties of Civil, Mechanical and E&I. The Revamping of tank Tk 9005 comprises demolition of the existing tank and the construction of a new diesel storage tank with capacity of 3000 m3. The execution will be developed along eight months, with its conclusion scheduled for November 2010.

SMM reinforces its attendance in the Netherlands, having won a new contract of around 8 million Euros for installation of cryogenic piping at Gate Terminal Maasvlakte, Rotterdam. With this award, Entrepose Contracting highlights the SMM erection performance on the three LNG tanks currently in execution at the Terminal. The work will be developed during one year, with its completion scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2010.

SMM was chosen, for several times, The Best Company working in the Gate Terminal Project, Maasvlakte - Rotterdam, due to its high performance concerning Health, Safety and Environment, at the erection of three LNG tanks.      

SMM has recently concluded with success the erection of  loading arms and revamping of remaining equipment in Berth C in the Leixões Harbour Terminal. Identical works will be carried out by SMM in Berth B during 2010.

The construction of the three 180.000 m3 LNG tanks that SMM is mechanically assembling at the Gate Terminal is proceeding according to schedule and the air raising of the roofs, each with a weight of 700 t, has already been performed with success. SMM was awarded a contract for the metalomechanical construction of a new LNG tank to be installed in Sines, in the frame of the terminal expansion project being currently undertaken by REN. As a consequence of earlier successfully executed retrofit works and erection of loading arms in berth A in Leixões Harbour , Galp Enegia has awarded SMM the same works in berthes  B and C of  the same terminal. The works for the metalomechanical erection of a recovery boiler  and a biomass boiler  executed by SMM at Celbi pulp mill in Leirosa, are  in the completion  stage,  expected to last until the end of July.
